Next up is an all-Serie A clash in the Italian Coppa Italia on Wednesday evening as Napoli take on Fiorentina at their Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in the round of 16 of the domestic cup competition for the right to meet either Venezia or Atalanta in the quarter-finals.
Napoli have produced a mixed bag of results in recent times as the hosts have managed to win just four out of their last 12 matches in all competitions and find themselves on the losing side in five of these games as well.
Nevertheless, three of these four wins were picked up on home soil with victories over Lazio and Sampdoria in Serie A along with a Champions League win against English Premier League side, Leicester City.
On the domestic front, seven of Napoli’s 11 home games so far this season have resulted in under 2.5 goals which may not be a huge surprise as Napoli have also kept a total of six clean sheets in the process.
Fiorentina bring an encouraging run of six games without a defeat into this upcoming cup clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona having won four and drawn twice and includes wins against Sampdoria, Bologna and Salernitana in Serie A along with a 2-1 win over Benevento in the previous round.
This improved run of form will have certainly been a welcome boost for Fiorentina who had previously suffered five defeats within a preceding run of eight games in all competitions from early October through towards the end of November.
However, results away from home have continued to be a bit hit-and-miss for the visitors as they’ve managed to pick up just four wins on the road in their last 13 outings overall while also failing to score in five of these games as well.
In addition, Fiorentina have been handed defeats by Napoli in each of the previous three meetings on the trot and the visitors will be desperate to avoid another heavy defeat after losing 6-0 at Napoli back in mid-January of last year in Serie A.
Four of the previous seven meetings between Napoli and Fiorentina have ended in low-scoring affairs which have seen under 2.5 goals being scored and Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash may be no exception, with Napoli holding the upper hand in a narrow win.
