The quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia take place this week and a titanic Rome Derby will headline the last eight. Lazio and Roma will meet at the Stadio Olimpico with a place in the final four up for grabs.

Lazio will technically be the hosts, although both clubs call the Stadio Olimpico home. The Biancocelesti are seven-time Coppa Italia winners and last won the competition in 2018-19.

Roma, on the other hand, are nine-time Coppa Italia winners. However, their last Coppa win was all the way back in 2007-08. Since last winning the trophy, Roma were runner-up on two occasions.

Lazio went unbeaten in their last three games versus Roma in all competitions. All three matches were low scoring, as Lazio won 1-0, 1-0, and drew nil-nil with the Giallorossi.

The clubs most recently played in November, with the game ending in that scoreless draw. Eight yellow cards were handed out during the match.

Speaking of cards, four red cards were shown in the last six matches between the clubs. Fans should expect another fiery fixture, especially with the game taking place in the Coppa Italia.

When playing as the designated home team, like they will on Wednesday night, Lazio kept six clean sheets in their last eight matches versus Roma.

Indeed, Lazio went unbeaten in those last eight games versus Roma when they were the “home” team.

Lazio and Roma are seventh and eighth in the Serie A table, respectively. The Biancocelesti won their last three matches in the league.

They will go into the game in form and most recently defeated Udinese 2-1 away from home.

Roma failed to win their last two matches, losing to Juventus and drawing 1-1 with Atalanta at the weekend. Roma coach Jose Mourinho was sent off once more at the weekend during the Atalanta draw.

Maurizio Sarri could be without Lazio talisman Ciro Immobile. The striker is nursing a hamstring injury and may not be fit to play. Forward Luis Alberto is also a doubt to play thanks to a groin strain.

Mourinho won’t have the services of Hossem Aouar and Evan Ndicka. Both are away at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Meanwhile, the trio of Renato Sanches, Chris Smalling, and Tammy Abraham are all ruled out with their respective injuries.

Striker Romelu Lukaku leads Roma with eight goals, which is 26% of their scoring in Serie A. Lazio’s scoring has been by committee, as Immobile only has four Serie A goals this term, which leads the team.

Lazio have played well against Roma when designated as the home team. The Biancocelesti should post another win over their city rival, claiming a 1-0 victory.
