One of the major trophies of the season is to be decided in France this weekend as Monaco meet Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Coupe de France.
The match will be played on Wednesday the 19th of May at the Stade France, Paris. Interestingly, PSG come into the final with a chance to also win the league on the weekend, so it is a big week ahead in France.
Monaco come into the game having recorded a 2-1 home win over Rennes in Ligue 1 on the weekend. They are currently a point ahead of Lyon and a victory next weekend will see them finish third and qualify for the Champions League third round qualification next season.
AS Monaco have been in great form coming into the final and they have won 11 of their last 13 games in all competitions, including the penalty shootout victory over Metz in the Coupe de France.
The semi-final against lower league Rumilly Vallières did not start well and the club from the fourth tier of the French football league opened the scoring in the 20th minute.
However, it did not take long for Monaco to score the equaliser and having taken the lead before half-time, they went on to win 5-1.
Trends show Monaco have been excellent defensively in the Coupe de France this season. They have kept four clean sheets in 5 matches, conceding just a single goal.
Paris St. Germain come into the match having recorded a comfortable 4-0 win at home over Reims on the weekend in Ligue 1. Due to the fact Lille only picked up a point at home in their game, PSG go into the final round of the league season just a point behind Lille in the title race.
However, all thoughts will be on the cup final and PSG have been inconsistent of late, winning only 2 of their 6 matches inside 90 minutes.
They needed a penalty shootout to overcome Montpellier in the semi-final of the Coupe de France recently and have lost to Manchester City in the Champions League twice plus been held at home by Rennes in Ligue 1.
PSG are on a great run in the Coupe de France and they have won each of their last 11 matches in the competition. PSG have kept a clean sheet in all of their last 3 games against Monaco in the Coupe de France, emerging victorious in all 3 encounters.
Team news and Monaco will have to make do without the injured trio of Pietro Pellegri, Stevan Jovetic, and Sofiane Diop.
PSG have a few injury problems of their own and Layvin Kurzawa, Marco Verratti, Alexandre Letellier, and Juan Bernat will all miss out.
The teams are evenly matched if their points total in the league is anything to go by. Monaco have been in good form but PSG have had the better of recent meetings between them in the cup.
We expect to see both teams find the back of the net in the final but PSG to come out on top and lift the trophy with a narrow win.
