Monaco to end Vallieres’s dream cup run

National 2 underdogs, Rumilly Vallieres have made it through to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France where they’ll face the might of Ligue 1 side, Monaco, at their Parc des Sports on Thursday evening in the second of this week’s semi-final ties.

Vallieres currently ply their trade in the French fourth tier in the National 2 division but their regular season has been halted, leaving Rumilly Vallieres to just participate in the Coupe de France cup-ties.

Although they’ve made it this far, it looks unlikely that they’ll be able to cope with Monaco’s firepower and fitness.

Vallieres last played competitive football in the previous round of the Coupe de France which resulted in a 2-0 home win over Toulouse.

This was played three weeks ago and lack of match fitness must surely play a part in this tie.

The hosts have reached the semi’s by embarking upon a lengthy cup run and achieving wins against Limonest, Saint-Priest, Prix-les-Mezieres, Annecy, Le Puy Foot and Toulouse, but they could well be at the end of the line here.

Monaco head into this Coupe de France semi-final tie on the back of an impressive winning streak which has seen Monaco winning eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, so the visitors will be in confident mood for this clash.

AS Monaco have also dominated in a large proportion of these victories as the visitors have won by a 2-goal margin or greater in five of these eight wins and with the likes of forwards Ben Yedder (19 goals), Volland (16 goals) and Jovetic (6 goals) in their attacking personnel, Monaco should comfortably outscore their hosts.

Results away from home have also been excellent for Monaco who have captured a total of 13 wins out of their last 14 played on the road in all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets in the process, so they look set to dominate this upcoming semi-final tie as well.

Monaco have also won their last six Coupe de France cup-ties as well, scoring a total of 14 goals and conceding just 3 in reply, so the prospects of a win by a margin of 2 goals or more looks fairly likely here.

To sum up, anything other than a straightforward Monaco win here would be considered a major shock.
