Low-scoring Cup clash on cards between PSG and Angers

PSG head into this Coupe de France quarter-final tie against fellow Ligue 1 counterparts, Angers, on the back of a narrow 3-2 home win over Saint-Etienne on the weekend, sealing all three points thanks to a last-gasp winner from striker Icardi, in injury time.
Despite that narrow win though, PSG still remain in 2nd place and a point behind Ligue 1 leaders, Lille, as the hosts turn their attentions to the domestic cup competition on Wednesday night where they recorded a resounding 3-0 home win over Lille in the previous round.
PSG are the favourites to lift this season’s Coupe de France and they’ve posted wins against Caen 1-0, Brest 3-0 and Lille 3-0 so far in the earlier rounds of the competition.
Although, the hosts will also undoubtedly have one eye on their upcoming Ligue 1 fixture away at Metz as they look to close in on another Ligue 1 title as well.
However, PSG haven’t had things all their own way of late particularly at home where the Paris side have managed just two wins out of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Angers suffered a second defeat on the trot in Ligue 1 on the weekend when they were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Rennes which followed a previous 3-0 defeat away from home at Lyon while results overall, have seen Angers pick up just one win out of their last six matches in all competitions.
That win came in the shape of a 1-0 win away at Sedan in the previous round of the Coupe de France and followed earlier wins in this season’s cup run over Rennes 2-1 and a 5-0 thrashing of minnows, Club Franciscain.
So in that case, they may fancy their chances of causing an upset here on Wednesday night.
Angers know they face a daunting task at Parc des Princes though, especially as the visitors have lost the previous 11 encounters on the trot against the Paris outfit, but will also be aware of PSG’s indifferent form of late at home as well.
The previous meeting between these two sides ended in a narrow 1-0 win for PSG away at the Stade Raymond-Kopa over Angers back in mid-January and another low-scoring encounter could be on the cards here too.
