Monaco to progress in cup at Metz’s expense

This will be the second time that these two teams will have faced each other in the space of two days as Monaco entertained Metz on the weekend in the French Ligue 1 which resulted in a resounding 4-0 victory for Monaco.
The hosts will be eager to replicate that result in the Coupe de France on Tuesday night at the Stade Louis II.
AS Monaco bring an impressive and extended run of positive results into this domestic cup clash having lost just once in their last 18 matches overall in all competitions which includes wins in the earlier rounds of the cup competition over Grenoble Foot 1-0 away and a 2-0 win on the road at Nice.
With 14 wins during this 18-match period, Monaco are heavily favoured to progress through to at least the quarter-finals of this season’s Coupe de France and will be keen to avenge their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Metz two seasons ago in the same competition here on Tuesday night.
Tuesday’s visitors, Metz, bring a more modest sequence of results into this cup clash as they’ve managed to register just one win from their last five matches overall which came in the previous round of the Coupe de France by way of a 4-0 win away at Valenciennes.
Metz had previously disposed of Amiens in a 2-1 win away from home in the first round but having suffered a heavy defeat on the weekend against their upcoming hosts, Monaco, in a 4-0 rout in Ligue 1, this upcoming clash in the cup doesn’t bode well for the visitors.
The bigger picture shows that Metz have won just four of their last 11 matches in all competitions although their performances away from home in the French domestic cup competition have been pretty impressive, winning eight of their last nine ties on the road.
However, Metz are expected to have their work cut out for them in this round of last 16 Coupe de France tie away at Monaco as their hosts have won the last two meetings on the trot in 4-0 and 1-0 victories respectively.
The form side heading into this cup-tie is undoubtedly Monaco who also possess greater depth off the bench and are expected to progress here.
