Angers and Rennes to both score in Cup clash

Angers head into this Coupe de France clash against Rennes on the back of just one win out of their last six matches in all competitions which came in the shape of a 3-1 home win over Nimes in Ligue 1.
However, four defeats against Monaco, PSG, Bordeaux and Nice within this six-match sequence show that Angers have been vulnerable in recent weeks and current form suggests they could struggle in this upcoming clash with Rennes.
Ligue 1 form at home in the domestic top flight has also been inconsistent as Angers have won five, drawn one and lost five of their 11 league matches at home, and although they’ve recorded wins against Reims, Brest, Lorient, Marseille and Nimes, the hosts have also lost five matches too.
Angers have also managed to keep just two clean sheets at home in their 11 league matches so far this season while four of their previous five encounters against Thursday evening’s opponents, Rennes, have resulted in both teams scoring.
Rennes managed to hold onto 5th place in the French top flight thanks to a 0-0 draw away from home at Lens on the weekend but they too have managed to pick up just one win out of their last six matches overall.
That solitary success came courtesy of a 2-1 win on the road at Brest and although they’ve lost just once in recent weeks, the visitors have also drawn four of these six matches after stalemates with Nantes, Lyon, Lorient and Lens.
Following a nightmare November and December which saw the visitors lose seven of their eight matches played during this period, Rennes have since turned things around as they’ve lost just one out of their last 10 matches.
Results away from home have also been solid from Rennes’ perspective as they’ve lost just one of their last 11 matches on their travels, while also scoring in eight of these 11 matches too, so they stand a decent chance of at least hitting the back of the net against Angers on Thursday night.
Previous exchanges between these two teams suggest that both sides stand a good chance of getting on the scoresheet in what could be an evenly matched contest as four of the previous meetings have resulted in both teams scoring and this cup clash could be no exception.
