Lille’s form to extend to Cup against Dijon

The round of last 32 in the Coupe de France will be held during this week and Wednesday night features an all-Ligue 1 clash between Dijon and Lille at the Stade Gaston-Gérard with both teams keen to further their progress in the domestic cup competition.

Having failed to win any of their last seven matches overall and losing their last four matches on the trot in Ligue 1, Wednesday’s hosts, Dijon, look to have their work cut out if they’re to get past their more illustrious opponents, Lille, following defeats to Lorient, Lille (away), Lyon and Montpellier respectively.

Dijon’s problems also include failing to score in four of these last seven matches too and with just two wins out of their last 24 matches, the prospects of a home win here and progression through to the last 16 of the Coupe de France look remote at best.

In addition, Dijon’s two wins in their limited success this season have both been achieved away from home with league wins at Nice and Nimes, who both occupy bottom half positions in this season’s Ligue 1.

Lille, by contrast, proudly sit top of Ligue 1 with a two-point lead over 2nd placed Lyon as the visitors turn their attentions to the domestic cup competition and a trip to face lowly Dijon on Wednesday evening.

The bigger picture shows that Lille have suffered just three losses out of their last 30 matches in all competitions which is some record, while on the domestic front, Lille have lost just twice in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign to date.

On the road, Lille have slipped up just the once which was a narrow 3-2 loss at Brest but an overall record of eight wins, three draws and one defeat shows the visitors have been hard to beat on their travels this term.

In addition, Lille bring an impressive winning momentum on the road into this cup clash as the visitors have won their last six league matches on the trot with victories gained at Dijon (2-0), Montpellier, Nimes, Rennes, Bordeaux and Nantes.

Even more impressive is that Lille have kept clean sheets in five of these six away matches while their head-to-head record against Dijon is an impressive one as the visitors have won six of the previous seven encounters and this trend looks set to continue on Wednesday evening.
