The Coupe de France semifinals sees a titanic clash between two of the country’s long-time rivals Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club are seeking their 13th all-time Coupe de France trophy but must get past an in-form Lyon team.

Lyon head into the game unbeaten in five straight games in all competitions. Les Gones are coming off of a win versus Juventus in the Champions League, 1-0, and a Ligue 1 victory over Saint-Etienne, 2-0, at the weekend.

PSG, on the other hand, have won back to back games and hope to continue their quest to collect cups this spring. Thomas Tuchel’s team are in control of the race for the Ligue 1 title. Their cup conquests took a hit with a 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16 first leg.

Tuchel needs to get his team past Lyon on Wednesday night as domestic silverware is the minimal expectation at PSG. The club are coming off of back to back Ligue 1 wins against Bordeaux and Dijon.

Lyon last defeated PSG in February 2019, 2-1, at home. Les Gones have lost back to back games against PSG since that victory. PSG’s last trip to Lyon’s Groupama Stadium ended in a 1-0 victory earlier this season.

PSG have the advantage when it comes to talent on the pitch. However, as we have seen time and again, PSG’s advantage in terms of talent doesn’t mean they will overcome their opponents.

Tuchel could be without a few of his stars for the fixture with Angel Di Maria and Thiago Silva both suffering thigh injuries. They are doubts to appear. Midfielder Ander Herrera is expected to miss as well and could be sidelined until mid-April.

Lyon’s biggest injury absence is Memphis Depay. The Dutchman is recovering from an ACL injury and will not appear again this season for Les Gones. Oumar Solet and Jeff Reine-Adelaide are both ruled out until later this spring. Youssouf Kone could be back for the game from an ankle injury.

Seven of the last 10 matches between Lyon and PSG have been won by the latter in all competitions. Rudi Garcia’s Lyon are in form and should push PSG for 90 minutes. Expect PSG’s big stars to struggle to put Lyon away.

Wednesday night’s game should see both teams score and over 2.5 goals scored. Ninety minutes won’t be enough as the two teams will go to extra-time at the Groupama Stadium.
