Paris Saint-Germain to roll past Dijon in the French Cup

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain take a step away from league action on Wednesday night with a visit to Dijon for a quarterfinal showdown with Dijon.

Thomas Tuchel’s team is on a 21-match unbeaten streak and it is hard to see any result other than a Paris Saint-Germain win in midweek.

Dijon’s attention should be on their lowly league standing rather than on the French Cup. They are 17th in Ligue 1 and just one point separates them from the bottom three. While the season has not been great for Dijon, they did defeat Paris Saint-Germain in November.

Manager Stephane Jobard’s team won 2-1 at home after finishing the first half 1-1 with the reigning Ligue 1 champions. That loss in November was the last Paris Saint-Germain suffered in all competitions. Prior to that loss, Paris Saint-Germain had won nine straight matches versus Dijon in all competitions.

While results on the pitch is good for Paris Saint-Germain, news reports continue to swirl over the players they could lose in the offseason.

Several stars are out of contract including Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier are both able to leave for free. In addition, Kylian Mbappe continues to be linked with a transfer to Liverpool.

Paris Saint-Germain eased to a 4-2 win at the weekend over rival Lyon. Angel Di Maria, Mbappe and Cavani were all three on the scoresheet. Neymar did not feature once more for the Parisians following his 28th birthday party.

The Brazilian continues to be a distraction off the pitch and cannot be counted on by the club. Neymar has appeared in just half of Paris Saint-Germain's matches this season due to his various suspensions, injuries, and personal issues.

His fitness and unwillingness to play through injury could be the ultimate reason Paris Saint-Germain once again get eliminated from the Champions League this season.

Five of Paris Saint-Germain's last seven games in all competitions have finished in wins to nil. The club are preparing to re-start the Champions League with a last 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund upcoming. It is a tasty tie that Paris Saint-Germain should dominate on paper.

Everything until then is a warm-up and Tuchel’s team, despite the myriad of issues, should have no problem winning to nil on Wednesday night. Paris Saint-Germain should score over 2.5 goals and keep a clean sheet versus Dijon away from home.

Mbappe could get on the scoresheet again for the Parisians. The Frenchman has 22 goals in all competitions this season.
