Breidablik Set to Make Easy Work of Santa Coloma in the UECL Qualifiers 2nd Leg
Breidablik vs UE Santa Coloma - 14/07/2022
1638
UE Santa Coloma will make the trip to Iceland this Thursday evening as they meet with Breiðablik Kópavogur in the second leg of the Europa Conference League first round qualifiers with a one-goal deficit to overturn.
Barely anything separated the two in the first leg of this qualifier but it was Ísak Þorvaldsson, formerly of Norwich City, that broke the deadlock to give the Icelandic side a 1-0 lead after 14 minutes.
Some defensive resilience and tactical excellence followed for Breiðablik, and ultimately, it was a fantastic result for them in a game that saw the stats go against them with less of the ball and few shots on target.
The victory for the Icelandic giants has now continued their sensational run of form this season that has seen the club lose just one game all campaign long across all competitions.
This sees them with a tremendous record of 10 wins from 12 games in the top flight of Iceland, while also losing just once and drawing the other.
What’s more, Breiðablik now have a six-point lead already on second place in the division, and this also sees them have a stunning goals difference record of 35 goals scored and 12 conceded in the division - this is both the best goals scored record and fewest conceded in the league.
Breiðablik are now on a five-game unbeaten run since losing to Valur back in mid-June, with them beating KA 4-1, Reykjavik 4-0, IA 3-2 in the Icelandic Cup, before a draw with IBV and then the first leg victory over Santa Coloma.
As for Santa Coloma, their domestic season has been finished for two months now and their first leg encounter with Breiðablik was actually their first game in almost two months having last played in a 1-1 draw in the Primera Divisio play-off with Atletic Escaldes.
It was also an impressive season for them in 2021/22, and although they finished three points behind Inter d'Escaldes in the race for the title, with just 26 goals conceded throughout 27 games and one less win than the league winners with 13, they still come into this one off the back of some promising form.
The club's last victory came back on May 15 where they beat Inter d'Escaldes 3-1 in the play-offs, and the Andorran side will have hope of getting a result here.
However, the one-goal deficit is in itself a lot to overturn against such an in-form side, and Forebet predicts a win here for Breiðablik and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
