Charlton and MK Dons to Play Out a Thrilling EFL Trophy Clash
Charlton Athletic vs Milton Keynes Dons - 04/01/2022

Charlton Athletic will meet with Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Trophy this Tuesday evening as the two look to salvage something from what has been a tough campaign in League One this season by advancing from this third round clash.
In the group stages of the EFL Trophy, Charlton won two fixtures and lost one, but more impressively, they scored 10 goals. Not many in the competition managed to net more, and with their three goals conceded from their three group games, they also remain one of the most defensive sides heading into the knockout rounds.
The London outfit would beat Southampton U21s and Crawley Town, with Leyton Orient being the only side that managed to beat them in the groups, and it all adds up to nearly the same record as that of MK Dons’ in the group stages too.
Liam Manning’s men managed to win twice and lose just the once also, but through conceding six times and scoring six of their own, they headed into the knockout rounds in weaker form than Charlton here.
Back in League One, however, MK Dons can boast a significantly better season. The Dons sit seventh with 39 points, 10 points ahead of the Addicks who are slumped into 13th.
Moreover, the Milton Keynes outfit have scored a fantastic 42 goals so far from only 23 games and it has resulted in 11 wins and just the six defeats in the league. At the same time, only the title-chasing sides, Sunderland and Rotherham United, have scored more in the league than MK Dons.
Both clubs have let in 29 goals in the third tier this campaign, but with Johnnie Jackson's men scoring only 30, they remain one of the lowest scorers and seem to find that every goal they score is matched with one conceded too.
Charlton are also in the midst of a two-game losing streak following losses to Plymouth Argyle and Cambridge United in December. They did previously beat Ipswich Town 2-0 and Gateshead 2-0 in the FA Cup in December too, but with them not playing since December 18th due to postponements, anything could happen here.
Since beating Leyton Orient on penalties in the EFL Trophy at the end of November, MK Dons have drawn twice, lost once, and won the other, and playing much more frequently than Charlton too.
Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals here and Forebet also predicts the game to be a draw within 90 minutes in this EFL Trophy clash.
