On Wednesday night, two of the most prolific teams of the Bundesliga clash at the BayArena, as Bayer Leverkusen host Hoffenheim in what should be a highly entertaining encounter.
Bayer Leverkusen head into this game after two straight defeats in all competitions. Gerardo Seoane’s team suffered a 1-0 defeat at Hungarian team Ferencvaros in the Europa League before a 5-2 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The European defeat mattered little, as Leverkusen had already booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition. However, the loss in Frankfurt was slightly inexplicable.
The defeat ended a four-game unbeaten run in the German top-flight for Bayer, which included a three-match winning streak. The game once again illustrated Leverkusen’s firepower, as it saw them score at least three goals for the third straight match in the Bundesliga.
That may be unsurprising considering that only league leaders Bayern Munich have scored more goals than Die Werkself this season in the German top-flight.
Bayer Leverkusen have won their last two league games on home soil, but have also won three and lost three of their previous six league matches at the BayArena.
Hoffenheim have hit form of late in the Bundesliga, recording four straight league wins, while scoring at least twice in each of the encounters, including a superb 2-1 win at Freiburg last time out.
The recent positive form has moved the visitors up to fourth-place in the Bundesliga table, just a point adrift of their third-place hosts in the standings.
Hoffenheim have been poor travellers of late in the German top-flight, as they have won just three of their previous 16 away matches in the Bundesliga. However, they have also won their previous two league matches on their travels.
Forebet predicts that this clash will produce a high-scoring encounter, which will result in the home team recording a win and strengthening their position in the league’s top-four.
