Wigan to Finally Win a Cup Game This Season By Beating Shrewsbury in the EFL Trophy
Wigan Athletic vs Shrewsbury - 10/11/2021

Wigan Athletic will welcome Shrewsbury Town to the DW Stadium on Wednesday night as the two League One outfits battle it out in the Football League Trophy with both entering the game in entirely contrasting forms.
The two clubs are at either end of Group C in the Football League Trophy with Shrewsbury boasting three points after a defeat and a loss in the competition, while Wigan are rock bottom of the table and need a win and other results to go there way in order to reestablish themselves in the competition.
Over in League One, however, it is a completely different story. Leam Richardson’s men are flying at the top of the table and there are seemingly very few things in the way of them earning promotion back to the Championship this campaign.
As of now, they are a point ahead of Plymouth Argyle who are in second and three points above Rotherham United, who are in third. The Latics have been top of League One for some time now, and they are clear favourites to earn promotion this season.
Wigan fell short once again in a domestic cup competition this past weekend, as they drew 0-0 with Solihull Moors in the FA Cup, resulting in a replay of the game to be played in two weeks time. It does show a serious lack of consistency in these competitions, however, their league form is more than making up for it.
On the other hand to such brilliant form, Shrewsbury are in a relegation scrap this campaign and need to find some form quickly before being sucked into the drop zone before they know it. They currently sit a point above the bottom three.
The North West outfit have managed to win four of their 16 games so far, and with a win on the board in the EFL Trophy, it’s not entirely doom and gloom and there can be some hope over the horizon.
Nevertheless, with Wigan’s 30 goals conceded and Shrewsbury’s 22 let in inside League One already, it’s doubtful we will witness a clean sheet from them yet again this campaign.
Given Wigan’s tremendous form in League One and Shrewsbury fighting for survival in the competition, it’s fair to say that this is going to be a home win and Forebet expects the Tics to get the job done here.
Goals have been on show for either this season, so Forebet also predicts a game that will see over 2.5 goals.
