Maribor to sneak narrow win away at Urartu

The 2nd legs of the 1st qualifying round of the Europa Conference League will be played on Thursday and features the clash between Armenian side, Urartu, and their Slovenian visitors, Maribor, with the latter holding a 1-0 lead following last week’s 1st leg victory.
Urartu now return to their Urartu Stadium for this return leg where they’ll be hoping they can overturn this 1-goal deficit, and having previously won their last three matches on the trot, all of which were recorded in the domestic Armenian Premier League, Urartu will feel confident about their chances.
Indeed, Urartu have lost just two of their last nine matches in all competitions while results at home have seen the hosts pick up four wins from their last five matches, but the European club stage is a very different prospect for a lot of clubs at this level, not least Urartu, who have never competed against clubs from other nations before.
Urartu are therefore less experienced than their Slovenian counterparts, Maribor, in this sense and this could prove to be the key in the outcome of this 2nd leg tie.
Onto Maribor then, and the visitors head into this 2nd leg tie looking to put this encounter to bed and progress through to the next qualifying round of this inaugural competition.
Having previously plied their trade on a regular basis in the Europa League in previous campaigns, Maribor look to hold the edge in terms of experience.
Maribor have won five of their last six matches in all competitions and although five of these six matches were pre-season friendlies, the Slovenian outfit still managed to come up trumps with last week’s 1st leg 1-0 win over their hosts, Urartu.
In terms of previous experience on the European club stage, Maribor possess vast experience compared to that of their Armenian hosts.
Аlthough Maribor have been without a win in the Europa League from their previous five ties, they’d been up against the likes of Scottish Premiership winners, Rangers, and Ludogorets.
With just three defeats from their previous 15 ties overall though at Europa League level, Maribor should have enough about them to register a decisive result at Urartu in this 2nd leg which will see the Slovenian outfit in the hat for the next qualifying round.
