Union Berlin and Mainz Begin Weekend Action in Germany
3120

The third round of 2020/21 Bundesliga fixtures begin on Friday night with a meeting between Union Berlin and Mainz. The match will be played at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei with the hosts on 1 point and the visitors yet to get off the mark this season.

Union Berlin started the Bundesliga campaign with a home match against Augsburg. Having fallen behind just before half time Union Berlin got back into the game with an equaliser on the 75th minute and it appeared as though they had sealed a point. However, Augsburg had other ideas and took the lead in the 82nd minute before scoring the decisive third goal with just one minute remaining on the clock.

It was a disappointing start to the campaign for Union Berlin and a tough looking away trip to Borussia Monchengladbach followed. Once again, Union Berlin fell behind in the match but managed to score an equaliser in the 79th minute. This time, Union Berlin kept out the opposition to seal their first point of the season.

Trends show Union Berlin have been difficult to beat at home. They have lost only one of their last 5 Bundesliga home games and have scored at least one goal in 8 of their last 9 on home soil. Both teams have scored in 5 of their last 8 home Bundesliga matches.

Mainz have found life tough at the beginning of their 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign. They started the season with a difficult trip to RB Leipzig and found themselves two goals down after only 21 minutes of the game. Mainz got a goal back just after half time but just as it looked as though they had a foothold in the game, RB Leipzig scored their third and the match ended 3-1.

Mainz play their first home fixture of the Bundesliga season against Stuttgart and this was a game they were hoping to win. Things started well and Mainz took the lead after only 12 minutes. With the score at 1-0, Stuttgart scored an equaliser just before half time and produced a strong second half showing to score 3 goals in succession. Two of the goals came following the sending off of Moussa Niakhate.

Trends show there have been over 2.5 goals in Mainz's last 3 games in all competitions.

Team news and Union Berlin will be without the injured duo of Anthony Ujah and Christian Gentner. They are the only players unavailable for the home team.

Mainz travel without Moussa Niakhate who is suspended following his red card last week. Adam Szalai, Dong-Won Ji, Edimilson Fernandes, and Stefan Bell are all unavailable for various reasons including injury, club discipline and virus.

This is a match that should see plenty of goals and we expect both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in the game. Union Berlin will come into the game pleased with their point last week and could pick up their first victory of the season.
