Eintracht Frankfurt host Werder Bremen in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal on Wednesday night. Adi Hutter’s Eagles head into the game winless in their last two matches while Werder Bremen have lost three straight Bundesliga games.

Werder Bremen are second from bottom in the Bundesliga and in a serious relegation fight. The DFB Pokal semifinal could be a breath of fresh air for the green and white. Defeating Eintracht Frankfurt could give Werder Bremen the motivation they need to survive the drop.

Coach Florian Kohfeldt’s Werder Bremen may be playing away from home, but the team will feel confident of defeating Eintracht Frankfurt. Werder Bremen are unbeaten in four straight games against the Eagles.

The two clubs have played seven straight games that ended with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals scored. Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen have been excellent in the final third playing against each other. They have both struggled defensively against each other.

Wednesday night’s game will be the first of two games in cup and league matches between Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost is still a major doubt which should give Andre Silva another start.

Midfielder Gelson Fernandes is out through injury while Goncalo Pacienca could start on the bench with Daichi Kamada playing after his goal exploits in the Europa League. Filip Kostic will be tasked as the Eagles’ main goal creator.

Hutter is also without Marco Russ and Lucas Torro due to injuries. Danny Da Costa and Mijat Gacinovic are both fighting for fitness but could miss out on the cup tie.

Werder Bremen could have winter transfer signing Kevin Vogt back from injury. He is recovering from a knee issue and could start in attack. Kohfeldt is without Fin Bartels, Niclas Füllkrug, and Kevin Möhwald. Werder Bremen’s veteran midfielder Philipp Bargfrede could also miss out through an injury.

Eintracht Frankfurt have struggled against Werder Bremen in their last four meetings. The green and white have won twice and drawn two matches against Eintracht Frankfurt in their last four.

The last seven games between the two Bundesliga rivals have seen both teams score goals and over 2.5 goals go into the back of the net. The teams show off their scoring firepower when they meet and Wednesday’s match should see them find the back of the net together once more.

Werder Bremen should continue the trend of getting results against Eintracht Frankfurt with both teams scoring in a close game. Expect over 2.5 goals in the quarterfinal.
