Early Contenders Clash in Bundesliga

RB Leipzig vs VfL Wolfsburg - 19/10/2019

Early Contenders Clash in Bundesliga
2229

The Bundesliga returns on Friday night following the international games but we turn our attention to the Saturday afternoon fixtures at the top of the table.  Things are looking tight at the top of the Bundesliga at this early stage and on Saturday we have a meeting between 5th place RB Leipzig and 2nd place Wolfsburg at the Red Bull Arena.

Only 1 point separates the teams, so there is all to play for in the match and the winner could be top of the table come the end of the weekend.

RB Leipzig come into this match having been held to a 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen last time out. That result means they have failed to win their last two Bundesliga games following a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Schalke the week before that match.

In addition to the loss to Lyon in the Champions League, RB Leipzig have failed to win any of their last three games in all competitions.  In the Bundesliga, trends show RB Leipzig have won only one of their last four matches.  The win came at Werder Bremen and was a convincing 3-0 victory.

At home, RB Leipzig have won one of their last four Bundesliga games, which was 2-1 over Eintracht Frankfurt at the beginning of the season.  They have seen both teams score in each of their last three home Bundesliga matches and in four of the last five.

Wolfsburg have made a good start to the season and will be pleased with their progress to date. Prior to the international break they won their fourth Bundesliga match of the season, beating Union Berlin 1-0 at home.  That result means they have won each of their last two league games including the 1-0 victory over Mainz away from home.

Wolfsburg come into this match undefeated in the Bundesliga this season.  They have won four and drawn three of their games to date.  In addition to the wins mentioned above, Wolfsburg have defeated Koln at home and Hertha Berlin away.  They have also picked up a point at Fortuna Dusseldorf and at home to Paderborn and Hoffenheim.

Trends show Wolfsburg are unbeaten in their last eleven matches in all competitions but have lost by 2 or more goals in four of their last eight away Bundesliga games.

Team news and RB Leipzig could be without Tyler Adams, Ethan Ampadu and Hannes Wolf and Ibrahima Konaté.  There are also doubts over the fitness of Kevin Kampl and Luan Candido.

Wolfsburg travel without the injured goalkeeper Koen Casteels who has a calf injury.  They also have doubts over the fitness of several players including Lukas Nmecha, Admir Mehmedi, Daniel Ginczek, Ignacio Camacho, Niklas Klinger and Xaver Schlager.

This is going to be a close match and both teams have had plenty of draws recently, which suggests we could be in for something similar from this game.  A draw and under 2.5 goals is a possibility.
