Watford will be out to ruin Manchester City’s dream outing at Wembley. The Hornets will attempt to rekindle the ghosts of the 2013 FA Cup Final when an already relegated Wigan Athletic shocked Manchester City to win the trophy.
Javi Gracia’s team may seek to shock the highly favoured Cityzens, but Watford’s form shows a team that gave up on the league following their FA Cup semifinal win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers in the semifinal, Watford compiled a miserable 1W-1D-4L record. Gracia’s team has no momentum whatsoever as Watford lost three straight Premier League games to wrap up the season.
Manchester City have won 10 straight games against Watford in all competitions. The Cityzens have routinely brushed the Hornets to the side outscoring them 32-6 during that 10-match time span.
Defensive midfielder Fernandinho continues to be a doubt for the game for Manchester City. The Brazilian tackler was a big miss toward the end of the season.
However, his absence gave Guardiola the chance to play Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, and David Silva together. The trio offered Manchester City a more attacking central midfield.
Full-back Benjamin Mendy will miss the fixture due to yet another knee injury. Mendy has been limited to 14 appearances due to injuries this season.
Gracia has nearly a fully fit squad to select from on Saturday. Centre-back Sebastian Prodl is one player Gracia won’t have available, however. The Austrian is still recovering from a knee injury.
Manchester City’s last day of the season 4-1 win over Brighton was a contrast to their goalscoring prior to the game. Manchester City’s previous four matches saw them average just 1.25 goals per game.
While a lot of focus has been on Manchester City’s attack during the season, their defence was just as strong. Manchester City kept 25 clean sheets in all competitions.
The Cityzens allowed just 0.65 goals per game in all competitions. Their defence will make life hard for Watford on Saturday and a clean sheet victory is likely for Manchester City.
