Sunday’s late kick-off in the Bundesliga sees the runaway leaders host a team seeking to end a nine-game winless run in the German top flight.

Bayer Leverkusen welcome VfL Wolfsburg to BayArena, with Xabi Alonso’s side leading second-placed Bayern Munich by a whopping 10 points.

At the opposite end of the standings, Wolfsburg find themselves 13th – eight points outside the bottom three and 39 points behind the league leaders.

Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten record in 2023-24 almost came to an end on Thursday, but two late goals saw them draw 2-2 with Qarabag in the Europa League.

Leverkusen’s New Unbeaten Record

Across all competitions, Alonso’s men have won 30 and drawn five of their 35 matches this season, winning 20 of their 24 Bundesliga encounters.

Not only have Bayer won each of their last five league games – keeping three clean sheets – but they have also won nine of their previous 10 while achieving seven shutouts.

With that in mind, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that Leverkusen boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded a measly 16 goals this term.

As for Wolfsburg, they suffered a 3-2 defeat against VfB Stuttgart last weekend, meaning they have now lost 11 of their 24 Bundesliga games this season.

The Wolves last tasted victory in the league on December 16. Since then, they have recorded six draws and three losses to remain in the bottom half of the table.

Trends show that Wolfsburg are the Bundesliga’s draw specialists, as they have tied six of their previous eight matches, with four 1-1 stalemates coming in that time.

To make matters worse for the Wolves, they have managed to win just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions.

Head-to-head: Bayer Leverkusen defeated Wolfsburg 2-1 in the reverse fixture, extending their unbeaten run in this fixture to four games.

Across the past 11 Bundesliga meetings, however, both sides have picked up four wins, playing out three draws along the way.

Team news: The hosts are still without key striker Victor Boniface, who is sidelined with a groin problem, while Arthur also remains on the treatment table.

The visitors also have a couple of injury absentees at the moment, with Brazilian defender Rogerio and Swedish midfielder Mattias Svanberg on the sidelines.

When you couple Bayer’s remarkable unbeaten streak with Wolfsburg’s lengthy winless run, all the signs point towards another home victory on Sunday.

Forebet’s AI algorithm predicts that Bayern Leverkusen and Wolfsburg will combine for over 4.5 goals, with Alonso’s men outscoring the Wolves on this occasion.
