Nottingham Forest upset Manchester United earlier this season in the Premier League. Now, the Reds will host United in the FA Cup last 16, with the chance to knock out the club. Can Nottingham Forest pull off a major upset?

Manchester United will limp into the midweek tie at the City Ground. Erik ten Hag’s team were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at the weekend in the Premier League. The defeat ended a four-game winning streak for Man United.

The Red Devils will face derby rival Manchester City on Sunday, so Ten Hag will want to avoid defeat to Forest to revive confidence in the squad.

Forest’s 2-0 win at home against United earlier in the season will give them self-confidence that they can pick up a win. Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White scored on either side of a Marcus Rashford goal to give Forest the win.

It was Forest’s first win over Man United in their last six attempts. The City Ground will give Nottingham Forest plenty of support once more, with United in town.

The FA Cup last 16 will provide those fans with plenty of incentive to cheer the players on.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is on a terrible run of form in the league. The Reds won just one of their last six Premier League fixtures. Forest lost at the weekend in the league to Aston Villa, 4-2.

United may have fallen to Fulham at Old Trafford at the weekend, but they are on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League on the road.

Ten Hag’s team reached the last 16 by defeating Newport County 4-2. They defeated Wigan Athletic in the third round. Manchester United have only played lower-league opposition, which could be a problem versus Nottingham Forest.

Forest progressed from the third round thanks to a win in extra time over Blackpool.  The Reds needed extra time and a penalty shootout to defeat Bristol City following a replay. Both of Forest’s previous matches in the cup went to replays and extra time.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes leads the team in FA Cup goals, with two. The Red Devils bagged six goals in their two previous FA Cup games.

Forest also scored six goals in the FA Cup, with six players sharing the goals. Forward Chris Wood leads the team in goal scoring stats with nine goals in all competitions.

Can Forest upset United once more at the City Ground? Our algorithm doesn’t predict a cup upset.  Rather, our score prediction is for Manchester United to win 3-1 and qualify for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.
