Copa del Rey action returns this Tuesday, and we’ve taken a dive into the mathematics, football predictions, data and trends for the game between Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid.

The Civitas Metropolitan Stadium is the host for our analysis in this game and the home side some into this one after a sensational run in the competition so far.

The club's run started with a 3-1 win away to Lugo, as Angel Correa scored after two minutes before a Memphis Depay brace in the second half. In fact, Atletico scored from all three of their shots on target.

A famous home win over city rivals Real Madrid came soon after, as Samuel Lino netted in the first half before Alvaro Morata scored to help his side retake the lead.

Antoine Griezmann and Rodrigo Riquelme sealed the deal with a goal each in extra time of a 4-2 win.

The trend of many shots on target at home continued that day for Atletico, as they had 12 shots on target from 18 efforts in total. The quarter-finals stage was up next where Depay scored again in a 1-0 win against Sevilla on home soil.

Around this period of the Copa del Rey run, Atletico have also managed to go unbeaten in La Liga, last losing to Girona in the early stages of 2024 in a 4-3 thriller.

Atletico beat Granada soon after with Morata scoring once more before a goal each from Lino and Depay in a 2-0 win at home against Valencia.

Depay kept up his excellent goalscoring form in 2024 with his fourth finish in the past 10 games soon after, as he and Reinildo scored in a 2-1 win against Rayo Vallecano, which once again kept up the excellent run of form shown by Altetico at home.

As for Athletic Club, they got a famous win over Barcelona in their last outing in the Copa del Rey. Gorka Guruzeta lifted the roof off San Mames seconds into the game with a goal after only one minute, before the club went 2-1 down.

Oihan Sancet scored to take things to extra time, as Nico Williams and Inaki Williams scored a goal each to win the tie.

Bilbao are also looking great in La Liga this year. A 4-0 win over Mallorca last time out brings them to within three points of Atletico in fourth. However, Forebet predicts a draw and under 2.5 goals. In the game.
