Real Madrid to stay unbeaten against Celta Vigo

Rafael Benitez’s Celta Vigo will host the manager’s former club, Real Madrid, on Friday night at the Estadio de Balaidos for round No 3 of the La Liga season.

Real Madrid lead La Liga after two matches, with six points and a +4-goal difference.

Celta Vigo did not start the new season well. The Sky Blues took one point from six on offer. New manager Benitez is attempting to change Celta Vigo’s fortunes.

The club battled relegation the last few seasons, and Benitez arrived with the aim of fighting for a place higher up the table.

A 2-0 home loss to Osasuna was followed by a 1-1 draw away to Real Sociedad. Oscar Mingueza’s goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time rescued Celta Vigo in round No 2.

Real Madrid started the season with a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames. Los Blancos followed it up with a 3-1 away win over Almeria.

Real Madrid won their last six matches against Celta Vigo in all competitions. Los Blancos outscored Celta 18-5 across those six encounters.

The last 10 matches at the Estadio de Balaidos between Celta and Madrid finished with over 2.5 goals.

Madrid tallied 2.0 goals or more in each of the last 14 fixtures versus Celta Vigo in all competitions. There is a strong possibility that Friday night’s fixture will see goals.

Benitez has two players nursing injuries ahead of the fixture. Forwards Goncalo Paciencia and Carles Perez both have muscle injuries and won’t be available until early September.

Celta Vigo said goodbye to several key players in the offseason, including Denis Suarez, Ruben Blanco, Javi Galan, and Orbelin Pineda.

Benitez was able to sign defender Carl Starfelt, forwards Jonathan Bamba and Perez, and midfielder Carlos Dotor.

Benitez used a 4-4-2 formation against Real Sociedad. Iago Aspas and Jorgen Strand Larsen played in attack.

Carlo Ancelotti will be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until April due to an ACL injury.

Defender Eder Militao recently joined Courtois on the injury list with an ACL injury of his own.

Midfielders Dani Ceballos and Arda Guler are both out until September with leg injuries.

Meanwhile, defender Ferland Mendy is unlikely to play following a muscle injury.

Madrid may have parted with Karim Benzema in the offseason, but new arrival Jude Bellingham has played well, scoring three goals. He has bagged three of the team’s five La Liga goals.

Real Madrid won their last six games against Celta Vigo. On Friday night, Los Blancos should win once more, with the game finishing 2-1.
