Having been knocked out of the Europa League in midweek, Bayer Leverkusen return to Bundesliga action with a home fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday evening.

With two matches remaining, seventh-placed Bayer Leverkusen and eleventh-placed Borussia Monchengladbach are separated by ten points in the Bundesliga table.

Leverkusen can finish as high as sixth, which would see them snatch a European spot. On the flip side, Gladbach could finish ninth if things go their way.

Bayer Leverkusen were held to a goalless draw by Jose Mourinho’s Roma on Thursday, meaning the Italian side advanced to the Europa League final thanks to a 1-0 win on aggregate.

Despite racking up 72% possession and 23 shots, Xabi Alonso’s men failed to find a way through, while Roma failed to register a single attempt on target.

As a result, Leverkusen head into Sunday’s clash on a five-game winless run across all competitions, having recorded three draws and two losses since their last victory.

That said, Die Werkself have only lost one of their previous 11 Bundesliga clashes, picking up six wins along the way, so they will be confident of bouncing back.

Borussia Monchengladbach, on the other hand, suffered a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Borussia Dortmund last time out, facing a whopping 34 shots in the process.

The Foals have now lost three of their last four Bundesliga clashes, with defeats to Union Berlin and Stuttgart preceding last weekend’s demolition.

It is worth noting that Borussia MG have been woeful on the road this season, winning just one of their 16 away league outings while suffering nine defeats.

Having lost five of their last seven away matches – taking two points from a possible 21 in that time – Gladbach look destined to struggle on Sunday.

Head-to-head: Bayer Leverkusen have won each of their last six Bundesliga meetings with Gladbach, scoring 17 goals while keeping two clean sheets.

On top of that, Leverkusen have won ten of their previous 13 matches against Borussia MG across all competitions. Needless to say, that does not bode well for the visitors.

Team news: Leverkusen’s injury list contains Robert Andrich (ankle), Karim Bellarabi (muscle), Odilon Kossounou (hip), Andrey Lunev (back) and Patrik Schick (groin).

Meanwhile, Gladbach will be without Luxembourg midfielder Yvandro Borges Sanches (ankle) this weekend, while Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin (hip) is a doubt.

Despite Leverkusen’s recent dip in form, Alonso’s men are expected to bounce back and take advantage of Gladbach’s dismal away record.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Bayer Leverkusen will score over 2.5 goals on their way to dispatching Borussia Monchengladbach.
