Valencia CF vs Villarreal CF - 03/05/2023

Relegation strugglers Valencia will look to revive their bid for La Liga survival when Villarreal travel to the Mestalla on Wednesday evening.
With six games remaining to save their season, Valencia find themselves 17th in the table – two points outside the drop zone.
At the opposite end of the standings, Villarreal sit fifth – 20 points clear of Valencia and five points shy of the UEFA Champions League places.
Valencia head into Wednesday’s showdown on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Cadiz, despite racking up 61% possession and 16 shots in Andalusia.
Los Che appeared to have turned the corner when they secured back-to-back victories over Elche and Real Valladolid at the end of last month.
When you look at the bigger picture, however, Valencia have managed to win just four of their previous 18 La Liga matches, suffering 12 defeats in the process.
Although Valencia have lost only one of their last five home games, they could struggle to avoid defeat when in-form Villarreal come to town.
Indeed, Villarreal enter Wednesday’s clash on the back of two dominant wins, having defeated Espanyol 4-2 before seeing off Celta Vigo 3-1.
The Yellow Submarine have now won seven of their last 10 league encounters, suffering just two defeats along the way.
Villarreal have also enjoyed plenty of success on the road in recent times, winning three of their previous four La Liga away games.
Having scored at least one goal in each of their last 12 away outings across all competitions, Villarreal look destined to find the back of the net on Wednesday.
Head-to-head: Interestingly, the home team has won each of the last eight meetings between Valencia and Villarreal in all competitions.
On top of that, each of the previous 10 meetings have produced over 1.5 goals, so we should see a high-scoring encounter this time around.
Team news: Valencia will be without the injured duo of Marcos Andre and Justin Kluivert for the time being, while Francisco Perez is a doubt for Wednesday.
As for Villarreal, Francis Coquelin and Jose Luis Morales are sidelined through injury, while Gerard Moreno and Kiko are doubts.
Granted, Valencia tend to be difficult to beat on home soil, but there is no hiding the fact that Villarreal are in excellent form right now.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Villarreal will edge out Valencia on Wednesday, with the visitors scoring over 1.5 goals en route to victory.
