In-form Atletico Madrid set for easy win over Almeria

Atletico Madrid will go in search of a sixth successive La Liga victory when relegation-threatened Almeria visit the Spanish capital on Sunday.

Thanks to a recent hot streak, third-placed Atletico Madrid find themselves just two points behind Real Madrid in the La Liga table.

At the opposite end of the standings, Almeria occupy sixteenth place – three points outside the relegation zone and 27 points behind Atletico.

Not only have Atletico Madrid won their last five La Liga matches, but they have also avoided defeat in each of their previous 12 league outings.

Having picked up nine wins and three draws since their last loss, Diego Simeone’s side are among the most in-form teams in Europe right now.

Atletico have also kept seven clean sheets across their last 11 La Liga games, giving them the second-best defensive record in the division.

With only three defeats coming in their previous 26 home encounters across all competitions, Atletico are expected to cause Almeria plenty of problems.

Almeria have only managed to win eight of their 28 league games this season, recording six draws and 14 losses along the way.

The Andalusia outfit also hold the second-worst defensive record in La Liga, having conceded 48 goals this term.

On a brighter note, Almeria are currently enjoying a three-match unbeaten run, having taken five points from a possible nine since their last loss.

That said, Rubi’s men have managed to win just three of their last 21 away games in all competitions, failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their previous 15.

Head-to-head: Almeria have only managed to win two of their last 13 meetings with Atletico Madrid, losing three of the previous five.

Given that Atletico have scored over 2.5 goals in four of their last five victories over Almeria, Simeone’s men shouldn’t struggle to find the back of the net on Sunday.

Team news: Atletico Madrid will be without the injured Memphis Depay this weekend, while Reinildo Mandava has been ruled out for the season.

On the flip side, Almeria will be without El Bilal Toure for the remainder of the campaign, while Serigo Akieme is a doubt for Sunday’s clash.

When you couple the current gulf between these two sides with Atletico’s strong record against Almeria, all the signs point towards a comfortable home win.

Forebet predicts that Atletico Madrid will score over 2.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to dispatching Almeria.
