Freiburg Should Ease Past Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal

Freiburg will be pleased to take a few days off from Bundesliga action after a terrible run of form since the return of football in Germany with the club moving down into sixth ahead of a trip to the BWT Stadium to meet with Sandhausen.

Sandhausen head into this game off the back of a 4-0 hammering from Darmstadt. It does throw them back down into 15th in 2. Bundesliga and with them also beating Arminia Bielfeld just a week ago, it does mean they have only five wins this season in the league.

Alois Schwartz's men have also drawn four and lost 10, as Alex Esswein and Christian Kinsombi scored a goal in the first half of the win over Arminia.

In the DFB-Pokal, they head into this one having edged past Karlsruher on penalties in an 8-2 shootout win. Sandhausen saw goals come in from Alexsandr Zhirov that day, as they took a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

As for Freiburg, it’s been a terrible return to action for them since the World Cup. Before the first game back a few weeks ago, the club were in third and breathing down the neck of Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

Now, however, they head into this game with a gap of six points on the club in first place and sit sixth with work to do in terms of getting back into the top four.

Worse yet, after losing 5-1 to Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg have let in 30 goals and conceded 30 as well.

Their only win in the Bundesliga came in a 3-1 victory at home against Augsburg two weeks ago, with them also losing 6-0 to Wolfsburg in a stunning loss that day and drawing 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Against Augsburg, Michael Gregoritsch scored once more before a goal from Lucas Holer and another from Philipp Lienhart. Christian Streich's have now let in 13 goals and scored five of their own in the past five games.

Freiburg have been awful since action resumed in German football. The club have fallen way off the pace in the race for the Bundesliga title and failed to capitalise on the terrible form of Bayern.

Nevertheless, despite the poor record this term, the club should ease to a win here against a Sandhausen that have, oddly enough, only really performed in the DFB-Pokal this season. Forebet predicts a win for Freiburg and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
