Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will visit Mainz on Wednesday night in the DFB Pokal round of 16. Bayern are winless in their last three games, as the trio of fixtures ended as draws.

A title fight is on the cards in the Bundesliga, as Bayern Munich are just one point ahead of second-place Union Berlin. On Wednesday, coach Julian Nagelsmann will turn the team’s attention to the DFB Pokal, a trophy Bayern failed to win last season.

Mainz will welcome Bayern Munich to the MEWA Arena for the last 16 fixture. The 05ers are in midtable in the Bundesliga and are in poor form. However, coach Bo Svensson is aiming for a cupset against Bayern.

Mainz are coming off a league win against Bochum 5-2. The win ended a six-game Bundesliga winless streak. Mainz reached the last 16 of the DFB Pokal thanks to a 3-0 win over Ezgebirge and a 3-0 victory against Luebeck.

Bayern Munich reached the last 16 of the competition with wins over Viktoria Koeln 5-0 and Augsburg 5-2. Can Bayern Munich score five goals in a third consecutive DFB Pokal match?

Nagelsmann has his fair share of injury issues at Bayern. Midfielder Leon Goretzka is out until the end of February with a leg injury. Noussair Mazraoui is out due to a heart issue and isn’t expected back until March.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out for the rest of the season with a broken leg. Defender Lucas Hernadez will miss the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

Sadio Mane should be back in February from a leg injury. Midfielder Bouna Sarr has a tendon problem and is out until next month

Bayern signed Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester City and will sign the player outright in the summer. Cancelo can make his Bayern debut on Wednesday.

Svensson has a few injury problems as well. Defender Stefan Bell is out with a muscle problem and goalie Robin Zentner has a back problem, and both will sit out the game.

Forwards Delano Burgzorg, Jonathan Burkardt, and Marlon Mustapha are all ruled out of the fixture.

Mainz may have won against Bochum at the weekend, but the 05ers struggled in their previous six games in the league.

Bayern drew their last three games and should finally get a victory on Wednesday night, as they down Mainz.

Bayern won 6-2 in the league against Mainz earlier this season. Die Roten should post another big win and cruise to a 3-0 victory.
