Freiburg to Move on Swiftly from Their DFB-Pokal Final Loss With a First Round Win Over Kaiserslautern
1972

After two games in the 2. Bundesliga and with the Bundesliga campaign only a week away from starting, the DFB-Pokal gets going this weekend as 2. Bundesliga side FC Kaiserslautern welcomes Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg to the Fritz-Walter-Stadium on Sunday.

Kaiserslautern are well into things in the second tier of Bundesliga action with the first division sides beginning their campaigns this week with cup action.

So far, the 2. Bundesliga has been extremely topsy-turvy with the likes of Hamburger, Holstein Kiel, and Hannover all losing, while the recently relegated sides, Greuther Furth and Arminia Bielefeld have both failed to win one of their first two games.

All of this does keep Kaiserslautern in the unbeaten column after two games, as they sit with a win and a draw and occupy fifth in the table in the second tier right now.

The club kicked things off with playing hosts to Hannover in the opening weekend in what was a fantastic game of football.

Mike Wunderlich got the ball rolling for Kaiserslautern that day, before an equaliser from the away side brought them level with 10 minutes to go. Kevin Kraus then scored the winner with only seconds remaining and deep into extra time to give his club a winning start.

Alarmingly, however, the club only saw 33% of the ball against Hannover, while also having just four shots on target in the entire game. Nevertheless, they defended well and the only real chance Hannover had turned into a goal, and there were signs of promise for Kaiserslautern.

They then travelled to Holstein Kiel in the next game, and once again, the club lacked momentum on the pitch with just 35% of possession.

On the other hand, Daniel Hanslik scored an excellent goal before Terrance Boyd netted an equaliser in what was a thrilling second half of action. The game finished 2-2, and Kaiserslautern now sit with one draw and a win after two league games.

This is Freiburg's first game of the season and following from their stunning efforts of last year and an unbeaten preseason, they will be in top form and have great confidence heading into this one.

They ended up in sixth last season with 15 wins from 34 games in what was one of their best Bundesliga seasons in recent history.

They did also make it all the way to the final in this competition last time out, with RB Leipzig brutally beating them on penalties in Berlin.

Forebet predicts Freiburg to keep this momentum going and win here with the game seeing over 2.5 goals.
