Frankfurt’s Stunning End to Last Season to Continue With a DFB-Pokal Win Over Magdeburg

The 2. Bundesliga meets with the Bundesliga this weekend across the board as the DFB-Pokal season gets underway with Eintracht Frankfurt travelling to the MDCC-Arena where FC Magdeburg awaits them off the back of two games already in their league.

With Frankfurt still in the midst of preseason action, Magdeburg are well into their new league season and come into this game off the back of a win and a loss already from two games.

They now sit ninth in the table, and with four goals scored and the same amount conceded already, it has been a crazy start to the new season for them.

Fortuna Dusseldorf were up first for them and despite seeing 63% of the ball and registering five shots on goal on home soil, the away side left with all three points in a 2-1 game. Connor Krempicki scored for Magdeburg that day in what was a poor attacking display from the home outfit.

Karlsruher were up next, and once again, it was an exciting game in which Magdeburg failed to consistently keep out the threat of the opposition.

Away from home, they once again saw much of the ball (63%), and they blew Karlsruher away in the first half of action when Andreas Muller scored after seven minutes, before Baris Atik and Moritz Kwarteng scored a goal each before half time.

Their second 2. Bundesliga game finished 3-2 and hearts were in mouths for the travelling fans as two goals in two minutes came from Karlsruher midway through the second 45. Nevertheless, they defended well in the end and left with all three points.

As for Frankfurt, confidence is flying very high for the Bundesliga side after winning the Europa League final and continuing their excellent form with an unbeaten preseason.

They managed to beat the likes of Torino 3-1 and most recently Astoria Walldorf in a 5-0 thrashing. The club are just around the corner from their UEFA Super Cup final too, so they could field a weakened side here.

Frankfurt defeated Rangers on penalties in the final back in May, and after also stunningly beating the likes of Barcelona and West Ham United over two legs, not many sides in Germany finished the season in better form. They did, however, end the campaign in 11th and 14 points behind the top four.

The Europa League champions should get the job done here, and Forebet predicts a win for Frankfurt and under 2.5 goals.
