This Saturday brings several crucial fixtures in the German top flight and one of these features the upcoming basement clash between relegation threatened Arminia Bielefeld and fourth from bottom visitors, Hertha Berlin, at the SchücoArena with a precious three points at stake for both teams.
Saturday’s hosts, Arminia Bielefeld, find themselves siting second from bottom in the Bundesliga table and six points adrift of safety and their upcoming opponents, Hertha Berlin, so this really is a ‘six-pointer’ and a game that neither side will want to lose.
Arminia Bielefeld have suffered seven defeats out of their last eight matches overall and this has seemingly condemned the hosts to the drop down to the Bundesliga 2 unless they can somehow turn their season around in their final three games of this campaign.
Results on home soil though perhaps give Arminia Bielefeld a glimmer of hope as the hosts have lost just two out of their last nine games at their SchücoArena while also picking up wins against Bochum and Union Berlin.
The draw has featured most prominently however, with Arminia Bielefeld being involved in no fewer than eight stalemates at home to date this term.
Hertha Berlin will be seeking a third league win on the trot in the Bundesliga on Saturday following recent victories over Augsburg and Stuttgart which in turn have helped lift the visitors out of the bottom three where they hold a four-point cushion above third from bottom outfit, Stuttgart, prior to this Saturday’s action.
However, despite also picking up an earlier 3-0 home win over Hoffenheim, Hertha Berlin have also struggled for results in the domestic top flight as the visitors have collected just three wins out of their last 14 matches overall.
Two of these three wins were achieved on home turf at their Olympiastadion Berlin, while results away from home have done little to boost Hertha’s chances of avoiding being dragged into the relegation dogfight below them.
With just one win from their last 10 outings on the road (which includes seven defeats), Hertha Berlin may just settle for a point here as they look to keep their heads above water.
Two of the previous four meetings between Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha Berlin at the SchücoArena have resulted in draws and another stalemate could be on the cards again this Saturday as well.
