The UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-finals get underway on Thursday, with Leicester City hosting PSV Eindhoven in one of the standout ties of the round.
Both sides started the season in the Europa League but dropped into the Conference League after finishing third in the respective groups.
Leicester and PSV are both among the bookmakers’ favourites to win the inaugural title, alongside Marseille, Roma and Feyenoord.
On Saturday, the Foxes held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. That means they have lost just one of their last five Premier League games.
Having claimed three wins in four league games before the international break, it’s fair to say that Leicester have upped their game recently.
That said, Brendan Rodgers’ boys dropped out of the Europa League after winning just two of their six group games earlier in the campaign.
The Foxes thrashed Randers 7-2 in the Conference League knockout play-offs before sealing a 3-2 aggregate victory over Rennes in the last 16.
Meanwhile, PSV also won two of their six Europa League group games to finish behind Monaco and Real Sociedad in Group B.
In the Conference League knockout play-offs, the Dutch side overcame Maccabi Tel Aviv before crushing Copenhagen 8-4 in the previous round.
PSV came from 3-0 down to snatch a dramatic 3-3 draw with FC Twente on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to seven games in the Eredivisie.
When you look at the bigger picture, PSV have won 11 of their last 14 league games and have lost just two of their previous 18.
As a result, they find themselves second in the Dutch top flight – four points behind Ajax and seven points ahead of third-place Feyenoord.
Head-to-head: Since this is the first competitive meeting between Leicester and PSV, there are no past results to analyze for this clash.
Team news: Leicester currently have five players sidelined through injury – Jamie Vardy, Luke Thomas, Danny Ward, Ryan Bertrand and Wilfred Ndidi.
Ryan Thomas, Andre Ramalho and Phillipp Mwene are injury doubts for PSV. Erick Gutierrez is suspended after receiving a yellow card in each of the last three Conference League clashes.
Given that both Leicester and PSV are among the favourites to win the inaugural Europa Conference League, Thursday’s clash is destined to be fiercely competitive.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Leicester and PSV will play out a high-scoring draw in the first leg.
