On Sunday night, Nottingham Forest will be hoping to roll back the years when they welcome Liverpool to the City Ground in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Forest head into Sunday’s showdown on a nine-game unbeaten streak across all competitions and are pushing for promotion in the Championship.

On the flip side, Jurgen Klopp’s team have won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions and look set to push Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race.

Boasting a combined total of nine FA Cups, seven Champions League crowns and a host of top-flight titles, this is destined to be a classic cup tie between two historic clubs.

Let's start by talking about the hosts, Forest, who have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround under the guidance of former Liverpool youth coach, Steve Cooper.

The Trickey Trees were rock bottom of the Championship table in September. Having lost just four of their last 29 league games, they now find themselves within a single point of the play-off places.

Not only have they avoided defeat in each of their last nine games, but they have also lost just one of their 14 clashes since the turn of the year – picking up ten wins and three draws along the way.

Let’s not forget that Cooper’s boys have already beaten two Premier League teams – Arsenal and Leicester City – on their way to the quarter-finals.

Thanks largely to the exploits of standout players such as Brennan Johnson, Djed Spence and Ryan Yates, the feel-good factor is well and truly back at the City Ground.

That said, this is undoubtedly Forest’s biggest test of the season. Liverpool come into this clash on a nine-game winning streak in the Premier League, having dispatched Arsenal on Wednesday.

When you look at the bigger picture, Klopp’s men have lost only two of their 29 league matches this term – securing 21 wins and six draws in the process.

It is also worth noting that Liverpool are the Premier League’s top scorers. They have netted a whopping 75 goals this season, meaning they average 2.6 goals per game in the top tier.

Of course, Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s biggest threat. The Egyptian King has bagged 28 goals and ten assists in 36 games across all competitions this term.

Head-to-head: Liverpool and Forest have faced each other 115 times over the years. Liverpool have claimed 56 wins, while Forest have won 30. The other 29 meetings were drawn.

They last came up against each other all the way back in 1999, producing a 2-2 draw at the City Ground. It goes without saying that a lot has changed since then.

Team news: Forest’s injury list includes Max Lowe, Steve Cook and Lewis Grabban. There are also question marks over the fitness off Scott McKenna.

As for Liverpool, they look set to be without James Milner and Kostas Tsimikas for the trip to the East Midlands.

Although Forest are enjoying a promising season, they should struggle to get the better of Liverpool. Klopp’s men are expected the flex their Premier League muscles at the City Ground.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score on Sunday. However, Liverpool are expected to net over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
