The fifth round of the FA Cup gets underway this week. On Thursday, Everton welcome Boreham Wood to Goodison Park in one of the standout ties of the round.

Boreham Wood play in the National League – the fifth tier of the English football pyramid. Unsurprisingly, they are the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition.

On the flip side, Everton are a Premier League mainstay. The Merseysiders have won the FA Cup five times, most recently in 1995.

The FA Cup has produced plenty of upset over the years. If Boreham Wood beat Everton, however, it would go down as one of the biggest upsets in the tournament’s history.

Everton were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City on Saturday. That said, Frank Lampard’s men gave a good account of themselves against the reigning champions.

As a result, the Toffees find themselves fourth from bottom in the Premier League table – one point above the relegation zone.

In the FA Cup, Everton beat Hull City 3-2 in their first match before thrashing Brentford 4-1 to book their spot in the last 16.

Still, Boreham Wood can take confidence from the fact that Everton have lost five of their previous seven matches across all competitions.

Boreham Wood’s fairytale run to the last 16 started back in October, with a 1-0 victory over Barnet in the fourth qualifying round.

Luke Garrard’s side then beat Eastleigh in the first round proper before seeing off St Albans City and AFC Wimbledon. In the previous round, they beat Championship Bournemouth 1-0.

It is worth noting that Boreham Wood have yet to concede a single goal in the FA Cup this season, keeping five consecutive clean sheets on their way to the fifth round.

In the National League, the Wood find themselves third – six points behind first-place Stockport. Having lost just three of their 27 games, they are in with a chance of promotion.

Head-to-head: This is the first-ever meeting between Everton and Boreham Wood, meaning we have no previous result to assess for this fixture.

Team news: Everton will be without the injured quartet of Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph, Ben Godfrey and Tom Davies for the visit of Boreham Wood.

The Wood will be relying on Scott Boden and Josh Rees, who have both scored ten goals across all competitions this season.

Although Boreham Wood are expected to give the Toffees a run for their money, Everton's Premier League quality should shine through.

Forebet predicts that Lampard’s side will secure a relatively straightforward win on Thursday, keeping a clean sheet on their way to victory.
