Southampton to Salvage a Troublesome Season with FA Cup Victory Over Swansea
3022

Southampton will travel to South Wales for the first FA Cup weekend of the English football campaign as the Saints look to salvage something from what has thus far been a troublesome season for them just as Swansea aim for round four.

It’s been pretty topsy-turvy in 2021/22 for Southampton so far, who have seen their decent start get marred by injuries soon after, which then dragged them further into the relegation battle.

Now, they currently sit 14th in the Premier League and are in a relatively healthy position heading into the January fixtures.

They are also now 10 points above the drop zone, but the club occupying the third relegation spot, Burnley, also have three games in hand and should a decent amount of points come from those games, the Saints are all of a sudden pulled back into the deep end.

Nevertheless, it’s been a decent enough year for them and with only six defeats from 19 league games thus far, they remain the clear favourites to beat a struggling Swansea side who are in near enough the exact same position in the league below, where a few bad results will mean a sudden relegation fight.

It has come as a surprise to many Swans fans and watchers alike, with the club heading into the season after finishing fourth last campaign.

Now, they sit 17th in the table and have won just seven of their 22 games so far and lost an alarming nine already in what is set to be a long 2022 for them it seems.

What is a concern for the Liberty Stadium faithful more than anything is the lack of goals, with Preston North End in the top 17 positions having only scored the same or fewer than their 26 scored as they too have netted 26.

Swansea also haven't played in nearly a month by the time they host Southampton with postponements derailing their season. At the same time, they had won just four of their past 10 games and are still on a three-game losing streak having conceded eight times in these three games before the postponements.

Forebet predicts a relatively comfortable victory for Southampton who now see the majority of their key players back, just as the excellent form of stars like captain James Ward-Prowse continues to blossom.

Forebet also expects the game to see over 2.5 goals with Swansea letting them in at a worrying wait.
