RB Leipzig’s form has been slightly salvaged since the departure of Jesse Marsch a few weeks back and Domenico Tedesco has now taken the club further forward with four points from a possible six in the past two games he has been in charge ahead of this clash with relegation-threatened.
Leipzig were in disarray under the American Marsch until his sacking, and in reality, as they sat outside of the top 10 at the time, things couldn’t have got that much worse without fears of relegation.
Tedesco has since steadied the ship slightly with a convincing 4-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, but they were brought back down to earth slightly with a 1-1 draw against Augsburg.
Last season’s Bundesliga runners-up needed a goal from Andre Silva early on to give them the lead, but it was cancelled out by a penalty late on from Augsburg in a game Leipzig both needed to win and were expected to at the same time.
It now leaves them in ninth position still, and with an awful lot of work to do just to get back within the top four, and in reality, a top three finish once again, now looks unlikely unless a seriously impressive winning streak is put together.
Leipzig could easily slip back into the bottom half with a defeat here, and worse yet, a defeat could throw them into 12th if VfL Bochum, Wolfsburg, and Koln all get results as well. Such a situation looks unlikely, especially as Tedesco has seemingly put together a few missing pieces for Leipzig early on.
Nevertheless, with six wins, six defeats and four draws, as well as a four point gap on the fourth-placed Hoffenheim, no more dropped points can come for them if they want to be within the top four ahead of 2022.
Leipzig’s results don’t entirely tell the story, however, as they have still managed to score a sensational 30 goals which only the top three in the Bundesliga can better. At the same time, their 20 goals conceded is fewer than all clubs inside the top four besides the league leaders, Bayern Munich.
The club are also seeing Thursday night football now with their move to the Europa League following a third-placed finish in their Champions League group, which likely only adds a headache to an already tricky situation for Tedesco and his men.
Bielefeld, on the other hand, are in tatters once again and are facing immediate drop into the second tier once more as they sit with 13 points from 16 games and just two wins.
As a result, Forebet predicts Leipzig to win here in a game that sees under 2.5 goals.
