Eintracht Frankfurt to Edge Out a Close Battle With Mainz
3029

Eintracht Frankfurt will welcome Mainz to Deutsche Bank Park this weekend as the two clubs look to continue their fight for the top four with the home side currently sat in seventh just as Mainz remain sixth following their fantastic victory over Hertha Berlin.

Bo Svensson’s side eased past the Berlin outfit with a 4-0 thrashing over the relegation-fighting side as Lee Jae-sung, Alexander Hack, Silvan Widmer, and Jean-Paul Boetius all scored a goal each with Mainz seeing 68% of the ball and havin 21 shots. It sums up just how excellent Svensson has got his side playing this campaign.

Prior to this, the club also lost to league leaders Bayern Munich by a mere goal as they lost 2-1 in a game they could well have got a point from.

It now leaves Mainz on 24 points from 16 games, and they could well find themselves into the top four if the club continue to win and pick up points from those around them.

What makes their rise from fighting relegation in recent times all the way into the Bundesliga top six is their excellent defensive record.

Ahead of this meeting, they have only conceded 16 goals in 16 games, which makes them both one of the best defensive sides in all of Europe’s top five leagues and as Germany’s one very best alongside Bayern Munich and Freiburg.

In fact, Mainz’s 16 goals is only bettered by the latter club, while the league leaders, Bayern, have also let in 16, which just proves how great they’ve been.

On the goals front, however, Mainz have only scored 25 goals, which whilst far from worrying, is the second-worst inside the top 10, with only Union Berlin netting fewer.

As for Frankfurt, despite the worries of things getting a lot worse for them when Adi Hutter left for Borussia Monchengladbach, the club have only gone from strength to strength and their fifth-placed finish and Europa League standard now seems like a bare minimum for them under Oliver Glasner.

The club are level on points with their weekend opponents ahead of this clash, which only means Glasner and his men can get back into the top six and perhaps even higher, should other results go in their favour.

Better yet, after smashing third-placed Bayer Leverkusen 5-2, they are now in as good of form as anyone else in the league besides Bayern Munich.

Given this exceptional performance, Forebet predicts Frankfurt will continue their winning ways here and get into the top six in a game that sees over 2.5 goals.
