Bayern Munich to collect first Bundesliga win of Julian Nagelsmann era versus Koln

Bayern Munich suffered a 1-1 draw against bogey team Borussia Monchengladbach on matchday 1 of the Bundesliga season.

Now, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team are seeking a first Bundesliga win under his stewardship.

Matchday 2 will see Koln arrive at the Allianz Arena. These teams met just a few weeks ago at the Allianz Arena in a preseason friendly with Koln winning 3-2.

Throw that result out of the window as Bayern Munich did not have many of their first-team players.

To find the last time Koln defeated Bayern Munich in a competitive fixture, you must go back to the 2010-11 season. Since then, Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 14 straight games versus Koln with 13 of those matches ended in wins.

Although Bayern Munich drew 1-1 against Borussia Monchengladbach on matchday 1, they defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in a thrilling German Super Cup in midweek.

Despite a lack of freshening up the squad, you cannot write of Bayern Munich yet.

Koln surprised Hertha Berlin on matchday 1 claiming a 3-1 win. After giving up a fifth-minute goal to Hertha, Koln scored three times on either side of halftime through Anthony Modeste and Florian Kainz. Kainz scored twice within three minutes.

In 2020-21, Bayern Munich dominated Koln in both matches. They outscored the Billy Goats 7-2 across to matches.

Die Roten had the best Bundesliga home record a season ago as they collected 43 points from 51 on offer at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich posted a goal difference of +43 with 63 goals for and 21 against at home. Koln did surprisingly well on the road.

They took 19 points from 51 on offer, which was five more than at home. The Billy Goats were –15 on the road with 14 goals scored and 29 allowed.

Nagelsmann could be without Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He sustained an ankle injury in the German Super Cup and has missed training since the game on Tuesday.

Kingsley Coman is ruled out and Leroy Sane is likely to start for him.

Koln have just one injury issue going into the game. Defender Jannes Horn has a hip injury and is likely to miss the fixture.

Bayern Munich have been excellent against Koln having won 13 of the last 14 matches between the teams. Although Koln are improving, they will taste defeat at the Allianz Arena once more.

It could be a close game with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals tallied. It will end in another Bayern Munich victory.
