Can Bologna return to winning ways and strengthen their UCL qualification hopes?

Bologna are having an incredible season and could qualify for the Champions League next season. However, the Rossoblu’s hopes of a top-four finish took a hit with a defeat last time out.

Empoli are battling for their Serie A lives. The Azzurri are 17th in the division and one point above the relegation zone.

They lost their last two Serie A matches and another defeat could see them drop into the bottom three.

Bologna took 15 points from their last six matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding just three times.

Thiago Motta’s team conceded just 25 goals in their 28 matches this season. It is the third-fewest number of goals allowed by any of the 20 teams.

Motta’s team won their last two away matches in Serie A. A 2-1 win over Lazio was followed by a 2-1 victory against Atalanta.

Empoli picked up eight points from their last six fixtures. They only scored seven times, but the defence conceded just six goals.

The Azzurri are one of the worst teams in Serie A when playing at home. Just 10 points were picked up from 14 fixtures. Empoli scored the league’s fewest home goals after 14 games, with just nine.

Bologna won the reverse fixture by a score of 3-0. Riccardo Orsolini opened the scoring in the 21st minute. He doubled the score in the 66th minute and finished off his hat-trick in second-half stoppage-time.

Joshua Zirkzee leads Bologna in goals with 10. Unfortunately, Zirkzee won’t be available for the game. He is out of action due to a hamstring injury.

Orsolini has nine goals for the Rossoblu. One-third of his goals were scored against Empoli in the reverse fixture.

While Zirkzee has 10 goals this term, Empoli’s leading goal scorer, Szymon Zurkowski, has four goals. Empoli are Serie A’s lowest scoring team. They have tallied just 22 goals this season.

Bologna’s Jesper Karlsson will miss the game due to a leg injury. Adama Soumaoro is also out of action following an ACL injury.

Empoli’s Jacopo Fazzini is suspended for the fixture. Midfielder Gabriele Guarino could miss the fixture following a muscle strain.
