Atletico Madrid have become a very competitive team under the guidance of firebrand Argentinian boss Diego Simeone. So much so that Los Rojiblancos even broke the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona to win the Spanish title in 2014.

No doubt Atletico have to be considered a very good team. However, unfortunately, at the moment, they are very much in the second tier of European football. That means that they may well lose one of their star assets Antoine Griezmann this summer.

The French international striker is regarded as one of the hottest players in his position. Recent reports suggested that Griezmann had asked to leave the Spanish club. However, the club from Madrid have released a statement stating he has not asked to leave.

Griezmann now looks to be at the point of his career where it is now or never to move to a club that can compete for the big trophies. The French international has been in prolific form in the past for seasons for Atletico, including scoring 26 times in all competitions last season.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League Manchester United this summer. It was even claimed that personal terms had been agreed between the two parties. However, it is now apparent that nothing is signed and sealed just yet.

Griezmann has a release clause of €100m (£86.7m) in his Atletico Madrid contract, so the Men from Madrid would be powerless to resist any bids matching that fee this summer.

The France striker has stated that he is still an Atletico Madrid player, but that he will meet with his sporting advisor in the near future to decide which direction his career goes in. It would not be a major surprise if Griezmann was not an Atletico Madrid player next season, though.
