Most Famous FA Cup Semi-Final Moments
1914

Manchester City, Manchester United, Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion are in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend. Here, we take a look at the most famous moments in FA Cup semi-final history.

Ryan Giggs’ Magic Against Arsenal (1999)

Arguably the most famous FA Cup game in history saw a replay between Manchester United and Arsenal at Villa Park.

By this point, both teams were neck-and-neck in the Premier League title race and United were eyeing up a treble.

David Beckham scored an early goal before Dennis Bergkamp equalised. United's captain, Roy Keane, was later sent off to hand Arsenal the advantage. However, a stunning save from Peter Schmeichel from a Bergkamp penalty sent the game to extra time.

Ryan Giggs then scored one of English football's most famous and best goals ever witnessed in extra time, as he picked up the ball in his own half before taking on half of the Arsenal team in a magical solo goal.

Paul Gascoigne's Goal against Arsenal (1991)

Of all the legendary moments from Paul Gascogine, his goal against Arsenal in the 1991 FA Cup semi-finals is one of his best.

The Englishman netted an early goal in the game and later set up a finish for Gary Linekar, but it was that stunning free kick early on in the match that set the tone for this semi-final.

Yaya Toure’s Dominance Against Man United (2011)

Although there have been crazier moments and better goals, there are not many more historic and monumental moments for Manchester City than their win over rivals United in 2011.

By this point, we were just three years into the new era of money for City and they were creeping up the Premier League table but still without a trophy for almost four decades.

Things changed in 2011 when Yaya Toure stormed through the United defence at Wembley to hand City a 1-0 win before the Ivory Coast star scored the winner in the final against Stoke City too.

Crystal Palace Beat Liverpool (1990)

Beating Liverpool in a cup competition before the Premier League era was no easy feat, especially in 1990 when the Reds were about to win another league title just as Crystal Palace were fighting relegation.

Palace scored a last-second equaliser that day before Alan Pardew went on to score in the 110th minute to secure FA Cup final status for the Eagles just a few months on from losing 9-0 to Liverpool in the league.
