Belgium – one of the bookmakers’ pre-tournament favourites – kick off their Euro 2020 campaign on Saturday, facing Russia in Saint Petersburg.

With Denmark and Finland also in Group B, both Belgium and Russia stand a decent chance of qualifying for the knockout phase.

Belgium beat Croatia 1-0 last weekend, extending their winning streak to nine games in all competitions.

In the lead-up to the European Championship, Roberto Martinez’s men have registered seven wins and two draws.

Looking at the bigger picture, the Red Devils have only lost one of their previous 23 matches in all competitions – picking up 19 wins and three draws along the way.

Following an 8-0 victory over Belarus, Belgium have netted ten goals across their last three games and have also kept two clean sheets in that time.

If Russia are to get anything from their opening match, they will need to keep Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku at bay.

The prolific striker heads into Euro 2020 on the back of a Serie A-winning season, having bagged 30 goals and 10 assists in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.

Meanwhile, Russia beat Bulgaria 1-0 last time out to ensure they come into the European Championship on the back of a win.

However, it is worth pointing out that Russia have only managed to win three of their previous 11 matches in all competitions – recording four draws and four losses in the process.

When it comes to the European Championship, Russia have won just one of their last eight games in the competition.

In each of Russia previous four games in all competitions, under 3.5 goals have been scored. However, Russia have only netted over 1.5 goals in one occasion in that time.

Head-to-head: Funnily enough, Belgium and Russia competed in the same Euro 2020 qualifying group back in 2019.

Belgium beat Russia twice that year, securing a 3-1 home victory before claiming a 4-1 win in Russia a few months later.

In fact, Russia have never beaten Belgium. In the seven meetings between the two nations, Belgium have recorded five wins and two draws.

Team news: After sustaining facial fractures in the Champions League final, key Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne looks set to miss Saturday’s game.

Russia will be relying on Artem Dzyuba in their opening match. The giant target man recently led Zenit to their third Russian Premier League title in a row.

Both sides are likely to approach their tournament-opener with caution. Still, Belgium are expected to come out on top.

Forebet predicts that Belgium will keep a clean sheet on their way to beat Russia on Saturday.
