This upcoming Copa do Brasil 2nd leg between Ceara and Fortaleza hangs in the balance following last week’s 1-1 draw in the 1st leg but the same venue of the Estádio Governador Plácido Aderaldo Castelo is the setting for this 2nd leg tie.
Both Ceara and Fortaleza share the same ground but there’ll be nothing neighbourly between these two sides on Thursday evening for this deciding leg with nothing separating the two sides.
Ceara have made a mixed start to the new season as they recorded a 3-2 home win against Gremio on the opening day of the new Serie A season, then drew 1-1 in the 1st leg of this Copa do Brasil 3rd round tie, followed by a heavy 3-1 loss away from home at Santos.
Ceara have been hard to beat in this cup competition as the hosts have suffered just one defeat out of their last 12 cup-ties, that being a 3-0 loss away at Palmeiras, but they’ve also posted eight wins during this time as well.
Fortaleza have made an excellent start to the new Serie A season as they’ve registered back-to-back wins against Atletico Mineiro 2-1 away from home before posting a 5-1 thrashing of Internacional at this Estádio Governador Plácido Aderaldo Castelo.
In-between times, they have of course drawn 1-1 with joint-tenants, Ceara, but results overall have seen Fortaleza produce an impressive sequence of results overall, losing just one of their last 17 matches in all competitions.
However, Fortaleza haven’t been able to replicate this type of form into the Copa do Brasil in recent times as they’ve managed to pick up just two wins out of their last eight cup-ties, which were in the earlier rounds of this season’s competition, beating Caxias 1-0 away in the 1st round and then recording a 1-0 home win over Ypiranga Erechim in the 2nd round.
In addition, Fortaleza have lost five of their last six cup-ties away from home but they stand a decent chance of progressing at local rival’s Ceara in this local derby.
Three out of the previous four meetings between Ceara and Fortaleza have ended in draws and this 2nd leg could also end all square at the end of 90 minutes.
