Despite recording a welcome and desperately needed 2-0 win away from home at Central Coast Mariners, Newcastle Jets still sit bottom of the A-League prior to this Saturday’s clash at their McDonald Jones Stadium.

The hosts are looking to at least lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

That rare win saw Newcastle Jets put an end to a miserable 14-match sequence without a win in the A-League, a dire run of form which has landed The Jets in bottom place of the Australian top flight.

The hosts may fancy their chances of getting something out of this upcoming encounter.

There hasn’t been much to cheer about for the home supporters particularly on home soil as The Jets have managed to scrape together just one win all season which surprisingly came in the shape of a 1-0 victory over the league leaders, Melbourne City, but the hosts also drew 1-1 with Saturday’s opponents, Perth Glory as well.

The prospects of a home win do appear to be slim though, but goals could feature as eight of The Jets’ 12 home matches have resulted in both teams scoring.

Perth Glory sit fourth from bottom in the A-League and are now five points adrift of the top six play-off pack following a run of three matches without a win which has put an end to Perth’s hopes of a top six finish.

Perth Glory had seemingly looked to be on course for a place in the play-offs as the Western Australian outfit had put together an impressive four-match winning streak just beforehand, thanks to wins against Melbourne Victory, Western United, Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United.

However, outings on the road away at Wellington Phoenix ended in a 2-2 draw before falling foul of a 2-1 loss away at Brisbane Roar which was the final nail in Glory’s play-off hopes.

Perth Glory continue to struggle away from home with large distances to cover across the rest of Australia surely playing a part, and this has once again been the case this season as The Glory have managed to win just two away matches all season.

Nevertheless, goals could also feature from the visitors as eight of their 12 away matches have also seen both teams score.

With very little to play for, both Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory could score here in what should be an open, attacking fixture.
