Friday evening brings us another important clash in the Australian A-League with Macarthur playing host to Wellington Phoenix at the Campbelltown Stadium as both teams continue in their pursuit of a top six finish.

Macarthur already occupy a place in the top six as the hosts sit in 4th place with just one match remaining of their campaign, but mathematically, Perth Glory could still make the top six as they have two games remaining and are just four points adrift of 6th placed Brisbane Roar (at the time of writing).

Therefore, Macarthur FC need to at least avoid defeat here on Friday night and having suffered just one defeat out of their last eight matches overall in the A-League, the hosts will be confident that they can grab at least a point in this encounter.

This sequence of results includes wins against Melbourne Victory (home and away) and a recent 2-1 win away at Western United, while also being involved in four draws as well in this recent period.

Macarthur have won, drawn and lost in equal measure to date and their previous meeting at home with Wellington Phoenix ended in a 1-1 draw back in January.

Wellington Phoenix are just two points behind 6th placed Brisbane Roar heading into this final match of the season on Friday night, and they will also be in reasonably confident mood as the visitors extended their unbeaten run in the A-League to 10 matches with a 2-2 draw at home with Perth Glory last time out.

Wellington have registered five wins and five draws within this 10-match sequence with two of these five wins being picked up on the road at Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers along with four draws within their last six away matches.

Wellington have been involved in stalemates away at Western United, Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United and Melbourne City in recent weeks which perhaps is no surprise as The Phoenix have become something of ‘draw specialists’ in this season’s A-League campaign and have drawn the joint-most games on the road along with Western Sydney Wanderers to date (5 apiece).

There’s only been one previous meeting between these two sides at the Campbelltown Stadium and this ended in a 1-1 draw and given the number of draws that both Macarthur and Wellington Phoenix have been involved in of late, there’s a fair chance of another stalemate this Friday evening as well.
