Boavista welcome Vasco da Gama to Saquarema for the first leg of their Copa do Brasil third-round tie on Wednesday.
Boavista compete in Campeonato Carioca – the top tier of the Rio de Janeiro state league – while Vasco compete in Serie B – the second-tier national league.
Boavista got the better of Goias in the first round of the Copa do Brasil, claiming a 3-1 victory back in March.
In the second round, Boavista beat Sociedade Esportiva Picos away from home in April, despite having a man sent off.
But since then, Boavista have failed to win any of their previous three league matches – recording two draws and one loss.
Boavista’s last game came back on April 24. They lost 4-2 to Portuguesa RJ and subsequently finished third from bottom in Campeonata Carioca.
On the other hand, Vasco were relegated from Serie A last season – finishing four from bottom in the top-flight.
They registered ten wins, 11 draws and 14 losses in the league last term – conceding 56 goals along the way.
Seeing as they finished with the fourth-worst defensive record in the division, it is hardly surprising that they were relegated due to their poor goal difference.
Vasco da Gama kicked off their 2021 Serie B campaign last weekend, suffering a 2-0 loss to Operario on Saturday.
Despite seeing 55% possession and managing to rack up 13 shots, Vasco conceded two first-half goals and failed to recover.
Head-to-head: Boavista and Vasco faced each other back in April, with the two sides producing a 2-2 draw on that occasion.
Marquinhos netted a first-half brace to give Boavista an early advantage, before German Cano and Gabriel Pec rescued a point for Vasco.
Team news: Boavista have no fresh injury concerns, while forward Daniel Amorim is Vasco’s only injury absentee.
Given that Boavista and Vasco played out a tight 2-2 draw a couple of months ago, Wednesday’s meeting is likely to be another close affair.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Vasco will beat Boavista by a single goal, while the away side are also expected to keep a clean sheet.
