Western Sydney face tough task against Brisbane Roar
2922

Western Sydney Wanderers suffered a third defeat on the trot in the A-League on Wednesday evening when they went down 2-1 at home to Wellington Phoenix and Wanderers’ chances of achieving a top six finish now hang by a thread.

Previous defeats against Perth Glory and Sydney FC, both away from home, were followed by the recent loss to The Phoenix.

Although, they hold home advantage at their Bankwest Stadium for this upcoming clash against Brisbane Roar, confidence must be fragile amongst the Western Sydney camp.

Wanderers now must win their two remaining matches of this regular A-League season and hope that other results go their way for them to even stand the slimmest of chances of making the top six.

Having won just two of their last 11 matches overall, this looks a tough assignment for the hosts.

Results at home have been inconsistent and wins have been sporadic as Western Sydney Wanderers have won just four of their last nine games at their Bankwest Stadium and they’ve failed to beat Brisbane Roar in each of the previous five meetings.

Onto Brisbane Roar, and the visitors find themselves in with a chance of achieving a top two finish in the A-League as they trail 2nd placed Sydney FC by only a four-point margin but Roar have a game in hand and three matches remaining of their season.

Brisbane Roar have been the more consistent of these two outfits throughout the course of this campaign and this is underlined by the fact that Roar have lost just two of their last 12 matches overall.

These two losses came in the shape of defeats at league leaders, Melbourne City, and 4th placed Adelaide United, but during this period, Brisbane have also registered four wins on the road with victories gained at Macarthur, Western Sydney Wanderers (2-1), Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets.

With just four defeats out of their last 14 matches on the road, Brisbane Roar look a decent prospect to pick up all three points here in Sunday’s clash.

And together with their solid previous results in exchanges against their hosts, The Roar look set to add to their points tally here and gain a vital win.

Wanderers are floundering but Roar have their sights set on a top two finish.
