The A-League action continues on Saturday evening when Adelaide United play host to Sydney FC at their Coopers Stadium with both teams vying for the other top two place in the division along with runaway leaders, Melbourne City.

Adelaide United sit in 3rd place and just three points behind the current 2nd placed side, Sydney FC, so these upcoming three points are vital in both teams’ quests for a top two finish, and Adelaide have won two of their last three matches.

Recent wins against Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory either side of a 2-1 defeat away at Perth Glory has helped keep Adelaide United in the mix for a finals place and their form at Coppers Stadium has been the catalyst behind the host’s success to date.

Adelaide are unbeaten in their last eight matches at home which consists of five wins and three draws, with one of their wins being a 1-0 home win over Saturday’s visitors, Sydney FC.

They have also keept clean sheets in each of their last three home matches.

Sydney FC will be desperate to get a result in the Cathedral City as the visitors seek to record a fourth league win on the trot following victories over Western United, Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers.

However, the latter two wins were achieved at home and although Sydney have lost just one of their last 11 matches overall, it’s been their form at home which has helped Steve Corica’s side into the top two places of the A-League to date.

Sydney have lost just twice at home all season so far in this A-League campaign but results away from home have been sketchy to say the least as the visitors have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last nine matches on their travels.

These wins were at Melbourne Victory and Western United.

However, losses at Melbourne City, Adelaide United (back in March) and Western Sydney Wanderers, along with four draws within this sequence suggest that Sydney FC may have a fight on their hands for the three points here on Saturday evening.

The bigger picture shows that Sydney have won just four of their last 15 away matches in the A-League, so the handicap on Adelaide United looks the best option here.
