Sevilla to end La Liga season on a high note
3892

Sevilla could end the season as high as third in the La Liga standings with a victory over Alaves on the final day of the season. They will need Barcelona to lose to Eibar on Saturday, although that is unlikely to occur.

Los Rojiblancos will host Alaves on the final day of the La Liga season on Sunday at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Alaves fought relegation for most of the season but have secured their status in La Liga for next season.

Alaves are 15th in the league with 38 points, five more than 18th-placed Elche going into the final day of the season. The team are on a decent run of form with seven points from the last nine available to them in the league.

Sevilla are blowing hot and cold. They had a slim chance at winning the league over the course of the final months of the season. However, a lack of wins prevented Sevilla from cracking the top two.

Julen Lopetegui’s team took 10 points from the last 18 available to them. Three of the last four fixtures ended without victories for Sevilla, including matchday 37’s loss to Villarreal, 4-0.

Alaves took 11 points from the last 18 available to them. They scored 11 points with nine being conceded over the course of those last six fixtures.

Sevilla are unbeaten in six straight La Liga matches versus Alaves. The reverse fixture between the teams in La Liga finished in a 2-1 win for Sevilla.Youssef En Nesyri and Suso scored on either side of an Edgar Mendez goal in the first half.

Alaves manager Javier Calleja has four players on the injury list going into the fixture. Forward Burgui has muscle discomfort and won’t be available until May.

Lopez Carballo is ruled out for the game with a hamstring issue. Fellow defender Rodrigo Ely is ruled out with ligament damage while Inigo Cordoba has a knee problem that will keep him out of the match.

Lopetegui has a fully fit squad, but the manager will be without two players due to suspension. Defender Diego Carlos is ruled out as is Marcos Acuna.

Sevilla are on a six-game unbeaten run versus Alaves and should continue their great run of form on Sunday. It should be another low-scoring game between the two sides as Los Rojiblancos win to nil.

The last six games between the teams all ended with under 2.5 goals scored. That trend should occur once more.
