Can Burnley finish the PL season strongly against Sheffield United?

Sheffield United have had a nightmare season in the Premier League and it is set to end on Sunday at Bramall Lane. The Blades will face off with Burnley at home to bring a finish to their Premier League status.

Interim manager Paul Heckingbottom has led Sheffield United to two wins from their last six games. However, it has not been enough to save the team’s Premier League status. Next term, they will play in the Championship.

Burnley are coming off of back-to-back losses in the league. Although they are 17th in the division, Burnley are 11 points above the relegation zone. Their placement in the table is a bit misleading as enough points were taken to keep the team up once more.

Sean Dyche’s team took six points from the last 18 on offer in the Premier League. They were outscored 12-8 over the course of those last six games. In midweek, despite a strong start versus Liverpool, Burnley lost 3-0.

Sheffield United also took six points from the last 18 on offer in the league. They managed to score just two goals in those six matches and conceded eight times.

In midweek, Sheffield United fell 1-0 to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The teams have met twice already this season in league and cup fixtures. They drew in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season with Sheffield United winning on penalties.

Burnley won the reverse league fixtures as Ben Mee scored in the first half to send the Clarets to the win.

Since 2019 when Sheffield United were promoted to the league, the Blades have posted a record of 1W-2D-1L against Burnley in all competitions.

Neither side are in form which means goals could be at a premium on Sunday.

Heckingbottom has a number of players on the injury list. Oliver McBurnie, Jack O’Connell, Ethan Ampadu, Oliver Burke, and Billy Sharp are all ruled out of the game already. George Baldock and Ethan Ampadu are both doubts to make the matchday squad.

Burnley manager Dyche is likely to be without goalie Nick Pope. The goalie has a knee injury. Robbie Brady, Phillip Bardsley, Dale Stephens, and Kevin Long are all ruled out of the game.

Sheffield United only scored twice over the course of their last six games. Their goalscoring issues should continue as Burnley claim a win away from home.

The game should be another low-scoring affair between the teams as Burnley edge out the Blades with a win to nil.
